Introduction

This holiday is a big departure from the sort of holiday that I am used to

Usually on these sort of holidays we would book our own travel, find accommodation, and work out what we were going to do in the places we visit. Often making plans once we had arrived somewhere.

This is very different and probably a lot more luxurious, and expensive, than I am used to.

Our travel agent has organised trips in the places we visit

There is a week long cruise on what looks to me to be an enormous ship, though people tell me that at 600 passengers it's actually quite small. This is probably the holiday element that worries me the most, never having done a cruise before, being trapped with 600 other people that I can't escape from. I suspect it will actually be fine though

The other big luxury element is a two day trip on the Rocky Mountaineer train.

The train deposits us in Banff where we spend a few days before flying to Canada's capital city, Ottawa

From Ottawa we travel 207 miles by train to Toronto, and then onto Orillia to meet Curtis and family.

More of Vera's relatives are encountered in Hamilton, before a final three days exploring the city of Toronto and then heading home

That's a rough sketch of our August

  2. Sounds great. I spent a few weeks in Canada in the 1970s starting in Vancouver. I was doing market research for British Aerospace for the HS748 twin prop aircraft and did the train via Banff and a little bit beyond. I flew to Yellowknife and then there was an air traffic strike so had do most of the journey back east by bus.
